Losing my agency in my Agency

In the early days of Rhetoricc, I was a one-person army – onboarding clients, managing them, designing, writing, accounting, you name it and I was doing it. Like most founders, I thrived on the hustle and every challenge that came my way. However, once I was three years into the business, the team expanded – I couldn’t handle a gamut of 20 brands on my own, of course. Each brand had a dedicated account manager in place who would coordinate with the team to get their tasks done on time.

Ideal, right? Not really.

My tasks at the time boiled down to creating proposals, onboarding clients and those dreaded accounting tasks. Somewhere along the line, I lost touch with my creative side. There were days when my team would shoot creative challenges at me and I would be at a loss; when I had to write a simple caption and cue ChatGPT; days when I couldn’t think of ideas for a content calendar. There were times I was at work, with nothing to do but stare at a screen. By the end of last year, we hit a staffing shortage. With clients to serve and not enough hands – I stepped in. I stepped in because I had to, but in the process realized what was missing in my work life. It didn’t take too long to get back at it – I was coming up with ideas, giving solutions to problems and writing, writing and writing. I was completing three days’ work in a day and I was loving it.

But long story short – be involved.  Remember why you started.
